CORNS AND BUNIONS
Corns and calluses are thick, hardened layers of skin that develop when your skin tries to protect itself against friction and pressure. They most often develop on the feet and toes or hands and fingers. Corns and calluses can be unsightly and can cause significant discomfort.
The onset of this condition could be vastly accelerated by diabetes and is hence highly prevalent among diabetic patients.
Pressure and friction from repetitive actions cause corns and calluses to develop and grow. If you have diabetes or poor blood flow, even a minor injury to your foot can lead to an infected open sore (ulcer). This is why it is highly imperative to take early action to prevent such unfortunate circumstances. With proper lifestyle changes and orthotics, the spread of the disease is severely limited and managed.
On the flip side, wearing ill-fitting shoes can aggravate the issue, making it worse. Tight shoes and high heels can compress areas of your feet. When footwear is too loose, your foot may repeatedly slide and rub against the shoe. Your foot may also rub against a seam or stitch inside the shoe. This is why, buying orthotics without seams or stitches is of utmost importance.
